Length units and layouts
Count in characters or in words — length unit
Measure your writing in the unit your market uses. In Settings > Goals, pick characters with spaces, characters without spaces or words under Length unit, and the count under the editor, its ring, your manuscript goals and your daily goal all follow it. The first unit follows your screen language — words for English, Spanish, Portuguese and Italian, characters for the rest — and goals you set in characters show when you pick a character unit. Length, which opens from the count, also shows manuscript pages counted by Characters per manuscript page.
A daily goal per work, a row per manuscript — goals
Set how much to write each day for each work, and see every manuscript goal in one table. Amount per day in Settings > Goals counts only what you type in that space, and your streak's flame carries on only on days you reach it. In a space with no goal, any day you write counts. Manuscript goals give each manuscript one row with its Goal scope and goal, and a manuscript set to Off keeps its number without a ring.
Write while seeing a submission manuscript, an e-book or a phone — layouts
See your writing the way it will be read. Under the editor, View settings offers Default, Letter, E-book and Mobile, and the pane takes that format's width, line spacing and first-line indent. In split view each pane picks its own, and Layout in Settings > Editor changes both. Default lets you set Page width, Line spacing and First-line indent, and Continuous view and Typewriter mode switch on from the same panel.
Brackets and ruby with one key — snippets
Type the brackets and ruby marks you use most with one key. In Settings > Editor, record a key under Snippets by pressing it and write a template, and that key types the template into your text. Write the template as 「[Cursor]」[Cursor on selection] and the selected words get wrapped in 「」 with the cursor after the closing bracket. The list starts with Ruby and Emphasis dots, and the three Feature shortcuts take any combo you record.
PDF and EPUB set top to bottom — vertical writing
Export Japanese and Chinese manuscripts set vertically. Turn on Vertical writing in the export Layout, and the PDF or EPUB comes out vertical with ruby and emphasis dots drawn and two-digit numbers set upright. EPUB pages turn right to left. Japanese manuscripts also draw |外套《がいとう》 as ruby and 《《今夜》》 as emphasis dots in horizontal PDF and EPUB.
Mixed files land where they belong — import
Drop chapters and planning notes together and each lands where its content fits. In the import window, a planning memo dropped in the manuscript section or a chapter dropped in the documents section moves to the side it fits, marked Moved based on its content beside its name. A file you move back by hand stays where you put it. Long text pasted into the chat, and text you Paste into an empty space, are saved where they fit too.
Fix one wrong fact — drafts
When one fact in a fresh draft is wrong, fix it without rewriting the chapter. Say "You made Vincent a blacksmith, but he's a woodcutter — fix just that," and a new draft card comes back with every sentence stating that fact corrected and the changed words lightly highlighted. Comparing versions in History highlights added words the same way.
Review on the page, on your phone — proofreading and feedback
Ask for a review right where you are reading on your phone. Proofreading and Feedback float at the top of the manuscript and start with one tap. Tap ‹ to fold them into a small square, and they stay folded on that device until you open them again.

Improvements
- On Japanese and Traditional Chinese screens
...becomes……, and with Auto-convert dashes on,--becomes that language's dash. - Ruby and emphasis marks count only their base text, and a lone « or — is not counted as a word.
- The length on an export cover is the file's real page count.
- The agent counts a page's length by the same rules as the count under the editor.
- Polish screens count characters and show publisher's sheets (arkusz) in Length, and French manuscript pages count 1,500 characters.
- In Polish, Portuguese, Italian and French dialogue, a " - " typed after a narration insert becomes the dialogue dash too.
- Number fields in settings step with − and +, and Settings > Public access reads link, default sharing, then Advanced settings.
- Ask to go back to "the version with 4,753 characters" or "the one saved 12 minutes ago," and the agent finds it.
- The agent knows when you save or turn down a draft, approval asks only about the latest draft, a turned-down card reads Rejected, and a rewrite of an existing chapter offers Overwrite.
- Facts in a planning memo sent to the chat without saving wait in World backlog under the input for Organize.
- Pasting into an empty space shows only the question, its buttons and the manuscript name field in the save row.
- The sidebar's Manuscript / Documents switch matches the list under it, and the sidebar's top and bottom edges line up.
- Deleted pages and folders open from Archive under Utility in the sidebar.
- Tapping anywhere on the Build the world card opens its run, and Create an empty manuscript in an empty space opens the same new manuscript window as Add.
- On phones, the View button above boards and tables shows its label.
- Upload files and Upload folder in the import window are small buttons from the start.
- On phones, a ⋯ menu's title has a thin line under it.
- Moving a whole episode group to another part brings its cards along, and Organize World leaves alone a board card number it has already fixed.
- Older pages with highlights export to DOCX.
- Duplicating a chapter page from the manuscript table takes you to Documents, where the copy is saved.
- Ask about one board group and the agent searches only that group's cards.
- Characters deleted from the Prior Records character table stay deleted when the list reloads, and a failed create keeps the name you typed.
- Renaming something and stating a fact in one message puts both on one Organize World card.
- Renaming a node type renames the nodes under it and updates the relations that point at it.
- A card opened by tapping a Style highlight stays open on phones.
- The path at the top of a screen is split by "/", as in "Characters / Sarah".
- On phones, a new space opens on the chat, Paste opens a window, and windows are only as tall as what they hold.
- A failed search says so, and Customer inquiry and the survey turn on Submit only when there is something to send.
- On phones, the chat button is a speech bubble with two dots.
- On phones, the sign-in screen keeps a 16px margin on each side.
