Screen settings
The longer you stare at a screen, the more every toolbar, mark color, font size, and bit of motion starts to bother you. Screen settings let you clear what you don't need off the writing screen and fit page width, colors, and font size to your eyes.
Hiding the toolbar
- Turn on Hide toolbar in the editor toolbar's ⋯. The editing tools above the editor and the screen modes and character count below it are hidden.
- When you need the toolbar, move the mouse to the top edge of the page. The toolbar reappears.
- To stop hiding it, turn off the same switch on the toolbar that reappears.
Changing the page width
Switch the page width with Mobile view / Wide view below the editor. Full width suits tables and seeing more text at once; the narrow width lets you preview how the text reads on a phone. Turning on Mobile view at the bottom of Settings > Editor gives the same narrow width, and narrows both panes in split view together.
A draft's result card in chat has the same toggle, for previewing that draft at mobile width. There it changes only the card's preview; the editor's width stays as it is.
Toning down mark colors
Turn on Muted colors for proofreading and revision marks in Settings > Editor. Proofreading and Revision marks show in a quiet gray instead of their usual color.
Setting the font size
Under Font size in Settings > Display, choose Small, Medium, Large, or Larger. The font size changes across the whole screen.
Reducing motion
Turn on Reduced motion in Settings > Display. Folding, the sidebar, panes, menus, and sheets change at once without motion, the loading star holds still, and graphs open already settled.
- Hide toolbar in Settings > Editor is the same switch as the one in the toolbar's ⋯. Touch screens don't offer it.
- The page width buttons appear on screens larger than a phone. On a phone, Mobile view in Settings is locked too. In Split view, each pane keeps its own width.
- If reduced motion is already on in your device settings, you don't need to turn on Reduced motion.
- Continuous view, which runs the manuscript together; Typewriter mode, which keeps the line you're writing in the middle; and Split view, which opens two panes side by side, each have their own page.
