Export

Sooner or later, the manuscript and lore you've written in TypeTak need to go somewhere outside it. Export saves your Manuscript, Documents, and World as files, whether that's the page you have open or a whole manuscript at once.

Exporting a whole manuscript

You pick several pages from the page list and export them together. A whole manuscript goes out the same way.

  1. Press All at the bottom of the Manuscript or Documents tab in the sidebar. Every page opens as one list.
  2. Check the pages to export.
  3. Press Export in the bar that appears.
  4. Under Format, choose PDF, DOCX, TXT, or EPUB.
  5. To get several pages in one file, turn on One file. With it off, each page becomes its own file and they arrive as a zip. EPUB is always one file.
  6. Press Export at the bottom.

Progress is shown while the export runs.

For very long content, use DOCX or TXT instead of PDF.

Laying out a manuscript for submission

Contests and publishers often ask for a set paper size, font size, and cover page. When you export to PDF or DOCX, you can match that layout too. Your choices stay for the next export.

  1. Under Apply preset, choose A4 · 11pt · 160% or Letter · 12pt · 200%. This fills in the paper size, font size, line spacing, cover page, and the size and alignment of chapter titles in one go.
  2. Change individual values under Layout: Paper, Font size, Line spacing, Header, and Page numbers.
  3. To put a cover on the first page, open Cover inside Layout, turn on Include cover, and fill in Title, Name, Contact, and Length. Fields you leave blank stay off the cover. The cover is added only when you merge into one file.
  4. Under Chapter titles, set the title's Language, Style, Size, and Alignment. The Style list previews this manuscript's chapter numbers and titles in each format. To leave titles out, choose Not included.
  5. To start each chapter on a new sheet, turn on Page break between chapters on the same screen. When a chapter spans several pages, its title still appears once, at the start of the chapter.

To go back to the original layout, choose Default under Apply preset.

Exporting just this page

  1. Choose Export › from the editor's More menu at the top.
  2. Pick a Format: PDF, DOCX, or TXT.
  3. Press Export.

Pasting into another app

To paste a page straight into another app instead of saving a file, choose Copy under the same Export ›. The whole page goes to the clipboard: pasted into Word or Google Docs, its headings, paragraphs, and tables come through, and a place that takes plain text gets the text alone.

Exporting a World node

  1. Press ⋯ on the node. For Vincent, that's at the top of his node's screen or on his row in the sidebar's World area.
  2. Choose Export ›.
  3. Pick a Format — PDF, HTML, DOCX, TXT, or Markdown — and export. You get one file with the node's properties and sections under its name.

For PDF, DOCX, and HTML, you can also choose the paper size, font size, line spacing, header, and page numbers under Layout. HTML offers font size and line spacing only. The World keeps its layout settings apart from the ones for the Manuscript and Documents.

To export every node of the Characters type, choose the same Export › from the node type's ⋯. This adds One file. It starts off, so each node becomes its own file and they arrive together as a zip; turn it on and every node goes into one file. In that case, each node starts on a new sheet in PDF and DOCX.

In a World table, or a board's Table, tick nodes and use Export › on the bar that appears to export just those, in the same formats.

Exporting Writing Style, Guidance, World Setting, and World Organizing Rules

  1. Press ⋯.
    • Writing Style: on its row in the sidebar or beside its title
    • Guidance, World Setting, and World Organizing Rules: beside the title (at the top of the screen on a phone)
  2. Choose Export ›. It saves as a single TXT or Markdown file.
  • EPUB is only for pages selected in All and merged into one file.
  • The manuscript-paper sheet count in Length is available when the title language is Korean or Japanese.
  • Guidance opened from Home has no ⋯; open it inside a Space to export it.

FAQ

Can I export a very long manuscript as a PDF?

A manuscript that's too long may not convert to PDF. When that happens, a notice says it can't be exported as a PDF. Check the chapters in a few batches and export several times, or choose DOCX or TXT.
