World backlog
As you work the story out with the agent, things get settled one by one, but opening the World to copy each one over breaks your train of thought. The World backlog remembers what you settled and the chapters not yet in the World, and lets you file them all at once whenever you're ready to organize.
Say you mention in passing, “Vincent grew up in a seaside village.” The conversation carries on as before while that line waits in the World backlog. When something is waiting, World backlog appears below the chat input.
Looking at what's waiting
The World backlog line below the chat input shows unread pages beside the book icon and items settled in conversation beside the speech-bubble icon. Three kinds of things pile up:
- Items settled in conversation — when you settle some lore, the agent replies and then collects it as one of the Items settled in conversation.
- Chapters not read yet — chapters you write, chapters you bring in with Import, and drafts the agent writes for you.
- Chapters edited after organizing — see “Flagging chapters you edited after organizing” below.
If you change your mind later, the collected item is updated or dropped to match. Say “Let's make Vincent's hometown a mountain village” and you don't need to remove the seaside one yourself.
Picking ideas from under a reply
- Ask the agent for new characters, places, or rules — “Give me a few names for the village where Vincent stays.”
- When the reply ends, a Save to the World backlog? row appears under it with a named checkbox for each idea. Tick just the ones you like.
- Press Add to backlog to put only the ticked ideas into the World backlog. Added ideas then show a beside their name.
To put them into the World right away, press Organize all at step 3 instead. It puts every idea from that reply in and starts Organize World right away, organizing unread chapters and items already waiting along with them.
You can also ignore the checkboxes and keep talking.
Checking and organizing
- Below the chat input, press Organize in World backlog. The World backlog panel opens where the input box was and shows what will go into the World first.
- Expand Items settled in conversation to check the items, and drop one you don't want with the on its line.
- Press Organize at the bottom of the panel. The chapters and items are organized together.
To close without organizing, press Cancel.
Closing it for now
Close it with the at the end of World backlog below the chat input. If the line itself is in the way, turn off World backlog reminders in Settings > Agent.
If items are collected, pressing deletes them all. To keep them, leave it open.
Flagging chapters you edited after organizing
Edits to chapters that are already organized collect in the World backlog panel too. Organize World doesn't read an edited chapter again, so if the story has changed, tell the agent yourself.
- Open the World backlog panel to see There are edits with the edited chapter numbers, along with If the story has changed, tell the agent in the chat.
- If the story changed, tell the agent in chat what changed. If you only fixed typos, leave it.
- Once you've checked, close it with .
- Only chapters from the manuscript you're working on count as unread. To organize another one, pick it from the manuscript chip in the chat input.
- The save row under a reply appears only for replies with new characters, places, or rules — not for recommendations or feedback.
- Add to backlog and Organize all appear once you tick at least one idea. When anything is waiting, the Organize all button carries a dimmed N N, and while organizing is in progress or waiting for approval, the button isn't shown.
- The counts of pages and items are at the top of the World backlog panel, and under them each manuscript's chapters to read are grouped like “01–03, 05”. Expanding Items settled in conversation shows each item on its own numbered line.
- If you close it while only chapters are waiting, it comes back after a day, or once a new page passes 2,000 characters.
- With World backlog reminders off, chapters and items still pile up, and the line still shows while organizing is in progress or waiting for approval.
- A closed edit record stays closed until you edit those chapters again.
