Spell check (Proofreading)

Check the spelling, grammar, and awkward phrasing of a finished page in one pass. Each fix appears in place in the text, and you decide which ones to keep.

Run a check

Open the page and press Proofreading in the editor toolbar. On a phone, the same item is in the editor's ⋯ menu. The check covers the whole page you have open. The button can't be pressed while the page is empty. While it runs, Proofreading appears above the text, with Stop beside it if you want to cancel. If nothing needs fixing, you'll see No corrections found.

You can also ask in chat — “check the spelling on this page” — and the same proofreading subagent (fix_spelling_grammar) runs the check.

Accept or skip each fix

Each place to fix gets a colored band, with the suggested wording just below it. Spelling and grammar errors are red; phrasing that is grammatical but awkward is gray.

Press the suggestion (✓) and the text changes to it. To keep your original, hover over the suggestion and press the ✕ that appears beside it; only the mark goes away. To see why a change was suggested, press the magnifier for a short Explanation. On a phone, tap the suggestion once to bring up ✕ and the magnifier.

Apply everything at once

When the check finishes, a menu appears above the text. Apply all (N) applies every fix shown. To fix only the clear errors first, press Show basic errors only. Only the red marks stay, and Apply all then applies just those. Show all brings the gray marks back. The trash icon at the end of the menu clears every fix you haven't applied and leaves the text as it is.

Tips

  • Wording that looks deliberate — a character's way of talking, dialect, a word stretched for emphasis — is sorted as gray rather than as a spelling error. Applying the basic errors first and going through the gray ones by hand keeps your voice intact.
  • If the marks get in the way of reading, turn on Subtle marking color for proofreading & revision in Settings > Editor. The marks turn a quiet gray.
  • For strengths, weaknesses, and places that contradict your lore, use Feedback. To rework sentences, use Revision.
