Cursor menu

Sometimes you can see the sentence that needs work but not how to change it. Open the cursor menu and, without leaving the sentence, you can see it put another way, push it in the direction you want, or ask the agent about the passage.

Say the cursor is in “Vincent put down his bow and left the village.” Open the menu and you can flip through other ways to say it, or use Imagery boost to get candidates that add the scenery of the road out.

Opening the menu

  1. Put the cursor in the sentence you want to work on. To work on several sentences, select that range.
  2. Press the button that appears below the cursor.

The menu applies to the sentence the cursor sits in, or to the whole range you selected.

Seeing it put another way

When you want to see the same meaning written differently, press Rephrase.

  1. Several candidates come back.
  2. Pick one and it replaces the original on the spot.
  3. Nothing right? Press the arrow for a fresh set, and keep flipping until the one you want shows up.

Enhancing a sentence

When you want to rework a sentence in a particular direction, pick one of the tools under the Enhance caption. The agent proposes several candidates, and only the one you pick is applied.

  • Flair & impact: Adds impact and personality to the sentence.
  • Enrich: Makes the phrasing fuller.
  • Imagery boost: Adds sensory language and metaphor.
  • Sceneify: Turns summarized narration into a live scene.
  • Dialogue: Puts a character's dialogue between passages of narration.
  • Inner voice: Adds what the character is feeling inside.
  • Background: Fills out the situation and the surroundings.
  • Write on: Carries on from where the cursor sits.
  • Simplify: Strips the padding and tightens it.

Under a Rephrase or Enhance card, Generate another runs the same tool on the same text once more and adds a new card below.

Running an editor Skill

Turn a request you make often into an editor Skill, and it waits in the Editor skills group under Rephrase. The same group is in the menu that opens when you select text. Press one and the passage is quoted with the sentences around it and sent to the current conversation with the Skill's chip.

To make a new one, press the at the end of the group (New editor skill). A new Skill window opens over the page with its type set to Editor, and Try in the window saves the Skill and runs it on the text where you opened the menu. For a Skill you already have, the at the end of its row opens it for editing. (Skills)

Asking the agent

To ask the agent about the content of your work, select text and press Ask. The passage is quoted into the chat, and the answer comes back there. Ask anything — where the plot should go, why a character acts as they do, whether something lines up with an earlier chapter: “Does Vincent leaving here fit with him finding out in chapter 07 that Raon is his brother?”

Calling them with a shortcut

Under Editor shortcuts in Settings > Editor, give Ask, Rephrase, and Add comment each a key combination from a fixed list, and call them without opening the menu. Leave one on None and it stays menu-only.

  • With text selected, Write on drops out of the menu, since the cursor sets where to carry on from.
  • Polishing you start from the editor continues the conversation that was open.
  • If the agent is still answering when you press a Skill, it waits as a queued message and goes out when that reply ends.
  • Reuse a shortcut combination that's already assigned and TypeTak tells you which action loses its shortcut.
