Skills

Working on a story, you find yourself typing out the same request from scratch again and again. A Skill saves that request once, so you can call it up in the chat or run it straight on a passage of your manuscript.

Say you've been writing “when he talks to Vincent, keep it casual and clipped” every time you fix Raon's lines. You can save that as a Skill called “Raon's voice.”

Building a Skill

  1. On the Skills screen, press New skill to open a new Skill, then set its icon and name.
  2. Choose its Skill type.
  3. Write when it runs in Agent trigger, and the instructions for the agent in Prompt.
  4. Check what it produces with Try.

Manage the Skills you build in My skills. A Skill's screen is titled with its large icon and name, and the ⋯ beside it holds Rename, Change icon, Duplicate, and Delete.

Choosing a Skill type

The Skill type decides where you call a Skill from.

  • Agent: You call it from the chat. Fill in its Agent trigger and the agent also uses it on its own when the condition is met.
  • Editor: You run it on text in your manuscript. It suits requests that need a passage to work on, like “Raon's voice.”

Running a Skill from the chat

  • Pick it with “/”: Type “/” in the chat input box and the Skill list appears; pick one and it runs.
  • Call it by name: Say a Skill's name in conversation and that Skill runs.
  • Run it automatically: Give a Skill an Agent trigger (“when the user asks for …”) and the agent runs it on its own once that condition is met in conversation.

When you call a Skill by name or it runs automatically, the agent first reads its Prompt (skill_read) and follows it.

Running an editor Skill on your text

  1. Select the text you want to work on, or open the menu where your cursor is.
  2. Press the Skill in the Editor skills group.
  3. The passage, with the sentences around it, goes to the chat as a quote.

Use the (New editor skill) at the end of the group to make a new editor Skill right there. (Cursor menu)

Browse the Skills other users have published in the Gallery and pull them into your list, or publish your own.

  • Importing: Open a Skill in the Gallery, read its Prompt, then press Import. A Skill you pull in is yours to edit.
  • Publishing: Turn on the Publish to gallery switch on the Skill's screen.

Duplicate an existing Skill and edit the copy to make a variant while keeping the original as it is.

  • Editor Skills appear in the Editor skills group of both the cursor menu and the menu that opens when you select text.
  • The agent doesn't pick an editor Skill on its own; it reads it when you name it in conversation.
  • A new Skill starts with Publish to gallery off.
  • An editor Skill you pull in from the Gallery arrives as an editor Skill.
  • To remove a Skill you no longer use, choose Delete from the ⋯ menu on its card in My skills.
