Outline & drafting

When you hand writing to someone else, the first thing to agree on is what gets written and in what order. Before the agent writes a draft, it shows you that plan as a card, then writes the draft into your manuscript following the plan as you edited it.

Say you ask, “Write the next chapter, where Vincent leaves the village.” The outline on the plan card might hold items like these:

  • Vincent quits hunting and packs his things
    • Keep the dialogue short; show his regret only through what he does
  • He runs into Raon at the edge of the village

Editing the plan

  1. Ask in the chat — “write the next page”, “continue from here”.
  2. The agent shows a Draft plan (page_outline) card and waits for your answer. At this stage it only plans; it doesn't write a single word of prose.
  3. Edit the Outline and Length on the card. In the outline, one item is one stretch of the draft: the first line is what happens in that stretch, and the bullets under it are how to write it. Length is the target length.
  4. If the plan isn't right, ask for changes. The agent edits the same card.
  5. When it reads the way you want, press Write as is on the card.

If you don't set a length in your request, the draft follows the reference length in that manuscript's Writing Style.

Getting the draft into your manuscript

Press Write as is and the draft subagent (page_writer) picks up your edited plan and writes it in the Writing Style assigned to the manuscript, to the target length.

A draft lands as a new page, or is added to the end of an existing page. The line at the bottom of the draft card shows where — the manuscript or folder, the page name, and Continue when it adds to a page — and once it's saved, press Open at the right end of that line to go there.

With Edit permission on Proceed automatically, the draft is saved into the editor as soon as it's written; on Ask first, it's saved when you press Create or Continue on the card. To put it somewhere else, ask the agent to move it.

Rewriting text you already have

Ask it to rewrite, shorten, or lengthen text that's already there, and the agent reads that text first and plans from it. To replace existing body text, press Overwrite; the earlier version is kept in History.

Pointing it to the lore and style to follow

Name World nodes — characters, places, lore — in your request, and the agent hands those nodes to drafting and Revision so the writing follows them: “write it with Raon's node in mind”. Point to other pages to draw on the same way.

You can also pick a Writing Style for this draft alone, instead of the one assigned to the manuscript.

Having it write a Documents page

Ask for whatever document you need — an outline, a plot summary, a character profile, a lore note — and the draft subagent (page_writer) writes it and saves it as a new page in Documents, apart from the manuscript. A Documents page has no Writing Style of its own; to have it written in one, name the style in your request.

  • The agent hands the draft subagent the World nodes the passage needs, and the subagent reads the text around the spot on its own: for a new manuscript page or an addition to a page, what comes right before it; for a rewrite, the text being replaced.
