Q: Do I have to number things?

No. Pages with no order belong in [Documents](./document), where you create and manage them. The agent reads Documents exactly as it reads the Manuscript.

A Manuscript is the unit that holds one story or one series. A Space stores several manuscripts.

Manuscripts are managed in the Manuscript area of the left sidebar. Create a new one from the manuscript picker at the top of that area, giving it a name and a Writing Style as you go.

Manuscripts and chapters

Inside a manuscript, writing splits into numbered chapters (03, for example). A chapter holds one page or several.

Every chapter carries a ⋯ menu.

Make a separate chapter: Splits a page off into a chapter with a number of its own.
Change number: Changes the chapter number and the page numbers inside it. If the number you want is taken, TypeTak tells you what holds it now and that the numbers in between shift by one, before you confirm.
Rename · Delete: Renames the chapter, or deletes it along with the pages inside.

Creating pages in the Manuscript

Create them from the Add menu in the Manuscript area. The same menu sits in the header of the full-screen Manuscript table.

Next chapter: Creates a new chapter with the number after the last one. Enter a chapter title if you want (blank is fine), and if there is no manuscript yet, a default one is created for you.
Sub-page: Adds one more page inside the last chapter.
From file: Upload a file and put it into this manuscript. (See Importing for details.)

Assigning and unassigning a manuscript

Put a document page into the manuscript you want with Assign to manuscript in the sidebar ⋯ menu. A page that is in a manuscript goes back to Documents with Unassign from manuscript.

You can ask the agent in chat instead. It handles everything from creating, renaming, and moving pages and folders to creating manuscripts, assigning pages to them, and reordering chapters. (With Edit permission on "Ask for approval", it shows you what it will change first.)

Can I write a series across several installments?

A Space holds several manuscripts, so give each installment one of its own. Create a new manuscript from the manuscript picker at the top of the Manuscript area.

Deleting a manuscript deletes the pages inside it, so a warning comes first, and deleted items can be restored from the Archive.
