Chat
Sooner or later you hit a spot you can't untangle on your own — where the next scene should go, or why a character acts the way they do. Talk to the agent in the Right Panel, and it reads the screen you're on, your manuscript, and your World, then works through plot and lore with you in a way that fits your work.
Say you ask, “How should I open the scene where Vincent first meets Raon?” The agent finds and reads both of their World nodes first, then answers.
Asking the agent
- Type what you want to ask in the input box in the Right Panel and send it.
- Read the reply, then follow up or ask it to take another direction.
Ask the agent to develop a character — background, personality, motivation, relationships — and it proposes what goes into that character's World node. With Edit permission on Ask first, nothing is written until you approve it. Bigger jobs like drafting, Revision, and Proofreading go to subagents.
You can also ask how TypeTak itself works — “Can TypeTak do this?”, “How do I use the World?” The agent looks it up in this guide with Search service guide (typetak_info_search) and answers from what it finds.
Characters, places, and lore you settle in conversation become World nodes when you run Organize World. It's fine if your World is empty — the agent creates the types it needs as it organizes.
Asking without restating your lore
The agent answers and writes from what's already in your Space. Most of it builds up as you write and talk, so you don't have to restate your lore with every request.
- The World — it searches and reads the nodes a request needs (
world_find,world_read). - The World Setting — what holds for the whole work: its era, its stage, its social order. It reads this when the writing at hand leans on that frame (
system_doc_read). - The Writing Style — the style set for each manuscript, used in drafting and Revision.
- Guidance — how you want the agent to work.
- Pages — the page you're on, any page you mention with “@”, and other pages it finds and reads itself (
page_find,page_read). - The web — when it needs a fact from outside your work, it searches the web (
web_search), shows what it found and the Sources it used, and then uses it in its answer. - World Organizing Rules — the rules of this Space it follows when it writes into the World with Organize World.
Adding context
When you want to point at a specific page or file, hand it over directly.
- Page Mention — type “@” in the input box and pick a page. The page shows as a chip in the input box. Mention page 03 and ask, “Does Raon sound the same here as in earlier chapters?”
- Attach file — attach a file to the chat. For each file, decide whether to save it into the Manuscript or Documents, or use it only as reference for that one request.
- Pasting long text — paste a long piece of text, such as a passage from your manuscript, into the input box and it sits above the box as a card. Each paste adds one card. Hover over a card and press the that appears to remove it. Save each card on its own by choosing Manuscript or Documents under Save. A saved card becomes a page and is attached to the input box as a chip. If you send without saving, the text goes along with your message.
Asking about part of a reply
- Select the text you want to ask about in an agent reply.
- Press the Ask button that appears. The text goes into a quote chip above the input box.
- Ask about that passage or build on it.
If you quote an option and agree to it — “Let's go with this” — that option goes into the World backlog.
Seeing what it's doing
While the agent works, each step it takes shows up in the chat as a short line — Read page, Find in world, Planning the draft, and so on. Once a step is done, press the page or World node it names to open it.
What the agent read folds into one line above the reply, such as Read: World, Manuscript ⌄; expand it to see one line per read.
Keeping going while it answers
- To stop a reply, press Stop (■).
- If something occurs to you while a reply is streaming, just send it. Send it with the round button to the right of the stop button, or press Enter, and it goes out as a new message once the current reply ends (Queue).
- While an Organize World run you started from the button under a reply is going, you can send your next message right away.
- You can leave the conversation, move to another one, or keep writing in the editor. The agent keeps working on your request, and you get a notification when the job finishes.
Rating and copying replies
Each finished reply has three buttons underneath: Rate response, Copy, and Branch from here.
- Press Rate response and choose Helpful or Not helpful.
- If you chose Not helpful, write why the reply missed in the box that opens. Your reason goes to TypeTak with the rating.
To take a rating back, press Remove rating in the same spot.
To take the whole reply elsewhere, press Copy. Branch from here, for trying another direction, is covered in Branches and conversation history.
- Choose the AI you chat with in Choosing a model, and the language it answers in under Customization.
- When a conversation runs long, the agent summarizes the earlier part and carries on, and Summarized the earlier conversation appears at the top of the reply.
- Pasted text becomes a card when it's over 1,000 characters, or over 300 characters with three or more paragraphs separated by blank lines.
- From a card you haven't saved, only the first 100,000 characters reach the agent.
- Several queued messages are merged and sent as one.
FAQ
What happens if I close the window while a reply is coming in?
If you close the window or refresh before the reply finishes, the reply stops there and only the part written so far stays in the conversation. Revision, Proofreading, and Canvas drawing that continue after a reply has finished keep going to the end even if you close the window. To hand off a long request and do something else, leave the window open and move to another conversation or keep writing in the editor.
