Manuscript & Documents
As you write a novel, character notes, plot ideas, and research pile up alongside the story itself. Where a Page lives depends on which sidebar tab you create it in: the story goes into numbered chapters on the Manuscript tab, and everything else into folders on the Documents tab.
Say Vincent leaves his village in chapter 03 of the manuscript. Your note on how Vincent and Raon are related goes in a ‘Characters’ folder on the Documents tab.
Writing the story on the Manuscript tab
A page you create on the Manuscript tab goes into a numbered chapter of the manuscript. Assigning a Writing Style to a manuscript sets the style it's written in. Adding chapters and changing their order is covered in Manuscript.
Gathering material on the Documents tab
The Documents tab holds writing outside the story — research, lore, planning — organized in folders. When you create a page there you choose its kind, and a Canvas is the kind where you lay out cards and connectors freely to draw relationship maps and flowcharts. (Documents · Canvas)
Moving a page to the other tab
- Press ⋯ next to the page.
- Choose Move › Manuscript or Move › Document.
For the screen where you open a page and write, see Page editor.
FAQ
Is there a limit on how long a page can be?
There's no set length limit. However long a chapter gets, you keep writing on one page. A page opens as one continuous document that you scroll and edit to the end (Editor utilities). Exporting very long text as a PDF can fail, so choose DOCX or TXT in Export.
